International Women’s Day celebration across the world

As the UN marked International Women’s Day on 8th March, many countries have taken this day as significantly important. For the progress of human society with a holistic approach, women need to be respected and treated well. This idea has been well received on an international level.

In 2017 and 2018, we have seen a global shift in many industries to end violence against women.
#MeToo campaign had united women to open up against male dominant power in the industry. International Women’s Day symbolises hope for the better and fairer future with equal social, economic opportunities for women.

In most of the countries, this day has been celebrated with gifts and public events. In Albania, Italy and, Russia, women were given yellow mimosas and chocolates. Flowers are one the common gifts of Women’s Day in East European countries.

In Poland, feminist groups celebrate this day with demonstrations and rallies. This day inspires women to achieve their goals. We need to encourage active participation of women in the economy.
In the age of technological advancement, it is important to motivate young women to
dream big. Many social organizations honour women for their special achievements on this day.

IWD is an official holiday in countries like Afghanistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Cambodia, China (for women only), Cuba, Georgia, Guinea-Bissau, Eritrea, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Madagascar (for women only), Moldova, Mongolia, Nepal (for women only), Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uganda, Ukraine, and Vietnam. As per the tradition men honour their mothers, wives, girlfriends, colleagues, etc with flowers and small gifts. In some countries, IWD has the equivalent status of Mother's Day, where children give gifts to their moms and grandmas.

On this day, many activities and events take place all around the world ranging from political rallies, business conferences, government activities and networking events, theatrical performances, fashion parades and more. Many global corporations actively support IWD by running their own events and campaigns.
